Mind, material, and machine

The idea of printing other artist’s work from only a digital file is essential to the project. The 3D printing involves a lot of decision making and this is what makes each exhibition unique. The detail in handling the object and choice of material and firing method etc. is left to each artist who prints the works for the exhibition. It will demonstrate the importance of craft and understanding of paste extrusion 3D printing. The collaborative work that will be the result of the project will be shared through local exhibits and the online gallery.

Global and local

Being able to participate from anywhere in the world by submitting work or hosting a show without shipping is essential to the project. Ceramic Commons celebrate the fact that 3D printing technology allows us to share work across the world. Some of the possibilities and issues in using the 3D printing technology this way will be explored and discussed in the project. This is an organic process and an open-ended project that provokes dialogues about sharing resources and issues around authorship and aesthetic control.  We hope both the local and global communities will benefit from the project.
